Frequently
asked questions about sprint- and middle-distance sleds
Is it possible to mount cross country skies on a Danler-sled? Generally speaking it is of course possible to
mount cross country skies on any kind of sled.
But we strongly advise against doing it especially on
midlle-distance sleds as the strain is way to high. Please keep in mind
the following if you want to use cross country skies:
1. The
thickness of the plastic amounts to about 1 mm. Our
runners have a plastic with 2 mm and therefore they can
be used twice as long. This circumstance alone puts the
higher cost of purchase into perspective.
2. The
tension of our runners matches our sleds. A cross
country ski has the tension too far in the front.
3. Cheap
cross country skies have cheap plastic and only
the expensive models have also racing plastic. 4. The
danger of breaking these skies is extremely high. They are built
for cross country skiing and are not made for dogsleds
especially with a dog in the bag. Strongly affected by this
matter are the expensive but extremely light skies.
How can I
avoid that the runner locking system from freezing up? As the only company
on the market we offer a two point attachment for the mounting
of the runners. This way the flexibility of the runners is not
affected. In case of infiltrating water the system will
freeze up when the temperature reaches minus degrees. A bit of
anti-freeze in the lock bar guide will do wonders and will keep
the problem solved for a long time. Please do not use hot
water or try to force the lock bar open. The safety
catch on the snowhook holder lost their tension, do I have to
change it? The storage of the
snowhook in the snowhook holder results in the loss of the
tension. Please remove the
snowhook after each ride.
You can try and restore the
original form by slowly heating it with a heat gun.
If this does not work then there is only
one choice left...to change this part. How do I
store the sled in the winter? The best is to store
it in a non heated room. If the sled is used every day and is
stored in a heated place, the melting of snow and ice can damage
the runner by entering water through the runner fastening system.
On the sled the water can enter through the lock bar guide and
that could result in freezing up when the sled is taken outside. How do I
store the sled in the summer? Please take off the
runners and clean the sled with water and if needed with mild
detergent. Put it in a cool,
dark, dry place. |
