Our first
wooden sleds we started building in 1987 together
with Hans Gatt as a designing engineer He is well
knows throughout the Mushing world as a successful mid- and long
distance competitor. He is a three time winner of the 1000 Mile
Yukon Quest and a four time winner of the Rocky Mountain Stage Stop
Sleddog Race.
These light
wooden sleds were soon very well liked because of their flexibility
in contrast to other sleds available at that time.
Because of
the ever increasing demand we decided to found the company “Gatt
Sleds” in 1992.
After Hans
Gatt moved to Canada we decided to take matters in our own hands and
started designing our own sleds.
The real breakthrough happened when we designed the European Open. This sled was awarded with the “Innovation for further development in the sector of Sleddog equipment” at the Trade fair “Trail 96” in Germany. Details like the steering system, the locking system, the easy changing of the runners, the good tracking abilities, the possibility of folding the sled, the design and other great features helped the sled to international reputation.
